This filter must be changed every 6 months regardless of the amount of water consumed - or if the fridge has been unused for more than two weeks.
This is because bacteria can grow inside the filter after it's expiry date.
So once "wet" it needs to be changed after 6 months.

Like all fridge filters, it should only be used on potable water - ie mains water supplies.
What the Amana Puriclean II filters out

Plus it greatly improves taste and odour.
When to change your Amana Puriclean II
The Maytag UKF8001 water filter has a lifespan of up to 6 months.
The filter monitor light on the refrigerator should turn red at this stage.
However, this light is a timer only. It is not any type of water quality sensor.
If you notice any taste and odour in the water, eg chlorine, the filter should be replaced sooner than the 6 months.
You should also change it before 6 months if the water pressure noticeably decreases.
